The program will focus on training ,not only on learning. We will work together to achieve this goal which requires cooperation and holding responsibilities.

What is the PY?

It is two semesters in which  a student studies courses like English, mathematics, and computer in addition to research ,  thinking and learning skills. It aims at preparing students of scientific section to study at the university. Also it aims at bridging the gap between general education and the university education. Passing the PY is a prerequisite for joining majors that require the PY

Objectives of the PY Program

To improve the output of highly qualified students for the requirement of the labor market as well as the national development

To strengthen the self confidence of a student and prepare him to cope with the university study and the work after his graduation

To reinforce student's capabilities in computer, English, and mathematics

To develop communication skills as well as thinking, learning, and discussion skills in addition to ethics.

The assessment of PY students

A student is subject to a continuous accurate program in academic assessment, capabilities, and discipline. A student will have a look on his learning process regularly through various means such as PY website (under construction). The PY has a mechanism by which a student can look at his level in order to improve or review his level before an official decision has been made which may deprive him from the study.

Passing PY program

 A student who passes the PY has the right to go on his bachelor at the university provided that he completed all courses with  a grade higher than (2.5..,5) with no exclusion.

Systems of the Study at the PY program

-The study of the PY comprises of two levels

-The duration of the level is one semester

-A student grades in his study. The success from one level  to the next level is ruled by the terms of the transfer among the study levels.

-A student is shouldering the responsibility to know and follow up the system and the regulations that organize the study including the completion of the preparatory year. The directions and the assistance of PY supervisors don't excuse a student  from his responsibilities. Therefore, it is obligatory for him to be familiar with the study system and to comprehend the instructions carefully and comprehensively. Also he has to know what is new about academic system and he can consult PY supervisors any time if there are queries.

Regularity and Apology  from the Study

The system of Najran University is applied to all student. The systems include; study, regularity, apology, postponement, discontinuousness, readmission , examinations , transfer ,and other academic systems

: Important instructions to students about registration procedures

                                                                                                                                         

1-The student is fully responsible for ensuring complete absence of  mistakes in the schedule like clashes in the classes time, or registering a course which he doesn't pass , or registering a course which he has already passed. In case there are mistakes in the schedule, he must review the program registrar only during the period of addition.

2-A student has to make sure that his email is valid and effective ,also he should check his email every day to follow up the sent announcement which displayed on the website or a notice board assigned to such notices

3- The absence will be calculated since the beginning of the study regardless the date of issuance of the schedule or the date of receipt it

4- If a student wishes to apologize from the study in one semester, he must review the deanship of admission and registration at the appointment determined by the deanship. In case his case is approved, a student has to bear the consequences of that.                                           

Regulations of Registration , Study, Majoring, and Transfer at the PY

                                                            
1-It is allowed for a student to apologize from the study or postpone only one semester

2-Whoever doesn't pass the PY courses in a cumulative grade of 2-5 during  three semesters (the apology and postponement are not counted in this period). It is probable to transfer a student to the colleges which don't require the PY or the community colleges

3-It is possible for a student if he wishes to transfer  from PY to any colleges which don't require the PY after his study at the PY for at least one semester. The transfer is based on the available seats at the college to which he likes to transfer.

4-The grade of the PY is not calculated in the accumulative grade of his final major. It is used to determine the appropriate major for a student at the university.

5-A student is not assigned to colleges that require passing the PY unless he obtains the accumulative grade of 2 from 5

6-A student can be excused from English courses if he obtains 500 or more in the TOFEL. Similarly the student who gets the ICDl in
computer is excused from the courses of computer

Passing the PY is one of the most crucial intake for the bachelor degree at the following colleges and majors:

College of Medicine

College of Dentistry

College of Pharmacy

College of Applied Medical College- the departments of Physiotherapy, Medical Laboratories, Radiology, and Nursing

College of Engineering- the departments : Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering

College of Computer – the departments of Computer Sciences and Information Systems

College of Administrative Sciences- the department of Business Administration

 

What are the colleges and majors which don't stipulate the PY to girls students for this year?

College of Applied Medical College-the departments of Nursing and Diagnostic Radiology

College of Computer- the department of computer sciences

College of Administrative Sciences- the department of Business Administration

Who are the students(both boys & girls) have the right of admission at the PY?

Students of the natural sciences (the scientific section) who obtained balanced  ratio not less than 80% will be admitted at the PY according to the available seats . Those who obtained high rates will be admitted gradually until the end of seat. When the seats are over, the admission is given to those who are consistent with the terms and conditions and they should pay the fee (balanced education) upon to the  decision of the university council in this regard.

What is the balanced ratio?

The balanced ratio can be calculated as the following equation:

0.3 x degree grades + 0.7 x the ratio of secondary school

What does the admission mean at the PY?

Admission at the PY means that a student is nominated to admission at any major  that requires passing the PY. The final admission in the certain specialization is based on the performance of  a student at the PY, examinations, and interviews which the college requires after passing the PY. The higher accumulative grade a student has at the PY, the more opportunity he gets at the particular major.

What is next the PY?

After passing the PY, succeeded students will be categorized according to their desired majors ,the accumulative grade, exam's scores, and additional tests like the comprehensive test. The seats will be given to top achievers  for  each major. When the seats will be over in a particular major and there are some remaining students whose first desires are that major ,their second or third desire will be considered. If a student doesn't achieve the minimum rate required for transferring from the PY to any major that requires the PY, he is requested to transfer to the community college or to any college which doesn't require the PY as per the  availability of seats.

                                                                                                                                        What is the maximum period for passing the PY?

A student must pass the PY in a period of no longer than three semesters , otherwise he will be dismissed and can be transferred to the community college or to any college which doesn't require the PY as per the availability of seats.

Second: Colleges don't stipulate the PY for male students

College of Science-department of mathematics, college of Administrative Sciences, distance learning of Arabic and Islamic Studies ,and Community college

Colleges don't stipulate the PY for female students

Diploma of college of Health Sciences-departments of Nursing and Midwifery, college of Education-Sharoora, College of Education-Najran, the department of Public Administration, and the community college.

Important alerts: the following behaviors cause the severe penalty

Every deed affects the morals and Islamic values, or breaches the good conduct and manners inside and outside the University

Presence in the classroom , corridors or the restaurant at the time of prayer (the prayer must be maintained with the group) 

Any deeds which violate the university systems and instructions

Cheating at the exam or even commencing cheating. Also It includes reports and projects cheating

Disordering the examination system or the calmness  of the exam

Every attempt to tamper or damage the University facilities , equipments, materials or books, and all the university's library holdings 

Misuse of University facilities and contents

Appearing at the exam in place of another student.

All forms  of forgery or cheating.
